Position Summary
The Development Manager is a key member of the fundraising team, responsible for expanding and managing funding sources that support Partners’ operations and programmatic activities. This role focuses on identifying and managing relationships with institutional funders, banks, foundations, and individual donors, participating in development of grant applications, and managing reporting processes. The Development Manager will contribute to the financial growth of the organization by securing grants, investments, and philanthropic contributions.
This position will report to the Chief Investments and Impact Officer (CIIO).
Major Responsibilities
Fundraising, Investor Relations, and Grant Management
- Manage annual sponsorship solicitation campaign for annual CDBA conference.
- Research and identify potential funding opportunities, including government grants, foundations, corporate sponsors, and individual donors for all Partners’ entities.
- Build and manage database of current and potential prospects.
- Assist in the production of government, philanthropic and other grant applications, ensuring compliance with funder guidelines and alignment with organizational goals.
- Work with finance department to coordinate Community Development Note sales, ensuring timely processing and documentation and manage annual campaign for Community Development Note holders to donate interest
- Manage outreach efforts to new religious investors
Donor Stewardship and Communications
- Coordinate production of donor communications, including impact reports, newsletters, and recognition events.
- Implement gift and acknowledgment processing, customer service and prospect management.
- Maintain donor management system, tracking contributions, managing acknowledgments, and documenting interactions.
- Maintain good communication and relationships with funders and prospective donors, providing timely updates on the impact of their contributions.
Reporting & Compliance
- Serve as project manager for monthly investor compliance meetings and follow up with assigned staff to ensure timely deliverables are submitted to stakeholders.
- Assist CIIO in production of reports to stakeholders.
Strategy and Organizational Support
- Participate in the development of fundraising and strategic planning initiatives to support organizational growth and financial sustainability.
- Support board relations, including preparation of materials, data, and presentations for board meetings.
- Support and manage communications with Partners’ Member Representatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree or CFRE is preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in development, grant writing, or fundraising, with experience in community development, CDFI, or financial services sectors.
- Demonstrated experience securing funding from banks, foundations, and/or government sources.
- Knowledge of banking and financial services principles, particularly within CDFI or nonprofit loan fund contexts.
- Proven experience managing relationships with diverse stakeholders, including funders, investors, and community partners.

- Analytical skills, with experience in budget management, reporting, and compliance.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in donor management and Salesforce CRM software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Passion for community development and economic justice.
This position will be based in Washington, DC with some travel required. Hybrid work environment (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in office). Local (DC, MD and VA) candidates preferred. Competitive compensation and benefits package.
